Initiators: The initial call to action was conceived by the anti-consumerist magazine Adbusters and popularized by activists Kalle Lasn and Micah White. A diverse coalition of thousands of citizens, students, and activists who organized to protest economic inequality, corporate influence in politics, and financial deregulation. The movement utilized decentralized, anarchist-inspired, and consensus-based organizing. It gained widespread digital backing from groups like Anonymous and was coordinated through platforms like Twitter and Reddit. Over the course of the protests, roughly 7,000 arrests were made globally. During the final New York City eviction on November 15, 2011 alone, police arrested nearly 200 individuals. There was no widespread structural property damage reported; however, the park's private owner, Brookfield Office properties, cited concerns about camp damage, sanitation, and the seizure of communal items, which led to the police-backed removal of the encampments.
